I can't believe it's almost been 4 years since Orange Sherbet & The Pink Couch popped into the studio. She was part of a three-part “highlighter” series that recalled admiring teenage girls and their lifestyle (from the eyes of a young girl). Back in the early 2000s, my sister Savannah and I would go down to our neighbor’s house, the Rathods, where two high-school-aged girls lived. Their room was THE BEST. An oasis of color, texture, glitter, VIBES. I remember sparkly, beaded door curtains; hot pink and purple pillows on a daybed; fuzzy shag carpets; CD players bumping the coolest music. Savannah and I were enthralled! Asking them silly questions about boys...wondering what it must be like to be that age.
This painting captures, in essence, teenage girlhood from the eyes of a little one. I've always loved the colors and the scene.
