I’ve always felt close to fairies and lightning bugs. I know fairies exist in the marsh. They must! The girl in this painting didn't originally have wings. For many years, I believed—mistakenly—that fantasy and fairytales didn’t belong in “fine art,” or in work that I thought would be taken seriously. But the truth is, imagination, whimsy, and the subtle magic of everyday life are just as worthy of my exploration as anything else. I've really enjoyed the blur between reality and fantasy.
